On 9th Dec 2005, the last day of the RM commuter service the students at Corpus Christi primary school brixton commemorated the end of the RM era by forming a guard of honour, saluting the last RM as they made their way up streatham Hill for the last time.

The passengers on the last few RM's were deeply moved by the pupils tribute.

We invited the pupils of Corpus Christi to participate in the Film Challenge event by completing artwork about that day.

At the event the 350 strong audience voted on the best picture and the pupil won a prize.

The participation of the school in this event further reflects the community inspired nature of the RM and the Farewell Routemaster Film Challenge.

Thank you to all Corpus Christi students who took part in the art competition.

Hi Jane

Wow, what an awesome night. It was one of the funnest things ever. I only hope Livingstone decides to pull the plug on Black cabs so we can all make some more films... only joking.

... well everyone I know who was there (about 13 people) had a fantastic time and are telling their friends to come to the next one

The standard of the films was very good I thought although predictably there were quite a fair few emotional montages of buses / conductors which I was tempted to do as well but refrained.

Also, working in telly where you never get to do this kind of thing, I found the whole experience very empowering and a breath of fresh air. So many of my colleagues would love to do films but are in telly for the security of a regular wage and this kind of competition gives us the chance to go out and do the whole filmmaker thing without having to go full time.

So thanks again and I can't wait for the next one....

Cheers

Dear Jane and Lucy,

Was present at the screening Tuesday night and it really was a warm feeling for all. Thank you.
Great job. I've only been in London one year so events that have real soul have been few so far for me but this was one to remember! Good luck and I hope they travel far.

Kind regards,

hi,
i just wanted to say how much i enjoyed last night @ the ritzy
cinema, brixton.

i thought that all the films were brilliant, and it was fabulous to hear the voice of the lovely HARRY, (several times), who was on the 159 route until the end, shouting in his very unique way, his conductor's catchphrases. i had to agree too with the judges choice of winning film.
it was entertaining, witty and totally original. i'd love to be able to get a video tape or dvd of the whole programme, any chance ?
i've lived in south london for 50 years, and some of my earliest memories as a child, were of travelling on these beautiful, red, exciting magical buses. my brother (now sadly dead) was a young conductor on the 88 route 36 years ago, for a couple of years. the routemaster was as much a part of london as any of it's famous landmarks, and should have been allowed to continue speeding it's commuters to & from work, and it's tourists to enjoy the cheapest but most enjoyable way of discovering this beautiful city.
it took an original and engaging young lady from the other side of the world to make sure that the routemaster's passing would not go unmarked, and ensured that the beautiful red routemaster's iconic status is assured ! what a wonderful celebration.
thankyou so much,

barb

Dear Jane
Just wanted to say thank you and congratulations for organising such a fab event last night.
My friends and I really enjoyed it and I was particularly pleased to see that, if I am an anorak, so are a lot of other, much younger, people! One friend who arrived late is taking her mother to the Sunday event.
I didn't see the elderly lady that you interviewed on the 159 on the last day who'd been out all the previous day with her son but I know she was going as I bumped into her buying her tickets.
If the films are ever available on DVD, let me know and I'd buy one as a memento!
I'm helping to organise a major press launch for a community project myself next month and I feel inspired by your success.
Best wishes and thanks again

Debbi
